Your mind tends to create fear in situations you are uncomfortable with, next time observe your fear — and actually try to suppress your phobias. The fear is generally caused by panic disorder. When agoraphobia results from being scared of having panic attacks, the person is said to suffer from Agoraphobia with Panic Disorder. Individuals with social anxiety disorder may have panic attacks triggered by fear of negative evaluation.

The threat of having future attacks and losing control in public is one of the defining characteristics of panic disorder. A person may dread having anxiety attacks, losing control, or embarrassing him/herself in such situations. Typical worries might be fear of losing control, having a heart attack or going crazy. Panic disorder is a fear of having a panic attack. Treating fear and anxiety disorders can be tough, but is very doable.

In fact, the fear of having a panic attack is just as debilitating for these patients as the attacks themselves. Some people actually dread the feeling of having a panic/anxiety attack. People often think that agoraphobia is getting distressed by just being outside, in large spaces. Some people experience agoraphobia as a feeling that stems from not being able to receive assistance during an anxiety attack.

Social anxiety refers to the fear of being around people due to the threat of criticism or embarrassment. If you suffer from social anxiety disorder, you constantly feel as if you are being evaluated by others, and embarrassing yourself. People with this disorder start believing these damaging thoughts, which reinforces and perpetuates the fear of social situations.

The symptoms of the disorder lead SAD sufferers to dread many interpersonal situations, including counseling. Just unpleasant symptoms and anxiety are enough to make someone uncomfortable and fear certain situations or places. In therapy there is a phase,  that you will learn on how to safely face the places and situations that cause fear and anxiety. It can become excessive, and generalized with excessive fear and anxiety and worry about a number of objects or situations.

Fear and anxiety disorders : Exposure therapy

Oxytocin attenuates amygdala reactivity to fear in generalized social anxiety disorder. A positive correlation between amygdala activation and the subjective fear response emphasizes the importance of amygdala in this fear-phobia circuit. Fear and the amygdala have been studied since the 1800s, with scientists making a connection between the two.

By learning more about fear and anxiety disorders in the brain, scientists may be able to create better treatments. Your thoughts relating to panic and fear can now fire in your brain and create fear in your body. Both the brain and fear are complex, and the studies continue today. Numerous scientific studies have demonstrated the efficacy of  Exposure Therapy to overcome fear and avoidance.

Done incorrectly, exposure therapy can backfire, reinforcing your fear and avoidance. Exposure therapy entails exposing a client to the object of their terror in a safe and controlled manner. A phobia is the excessive fear of a specific object, circumstance or situation. A phobia is defined as an irrational fearfulness that produces a conscious avoidance of the feared subject, activity, or situation.

Basically, those fear and anxiety disorders have an over-active fear center. This is a debilitating fear of being trapped, being alone, or unable to escape scary situations. Fear and anxiety disorders seem to go hand in hand, phobias are very treatable these days, but not curable just yet.
