Agoraphobia, sometimes thought as social phobia whose Greek translation means “fear of the marketplace,” is an anxiety disorder that involves intense fear in places or situations from which escape might be difficult. Agoraphobia has also been linked to substance abuse and stressful living environments. It can cause very nerve-racking situations.

Agoraphobia is an extreme type of anxiety that can result in panic attacks. It occurs twice as commonly in women as it does in men.  Agoraphobia usually starts in your late teens or early 20’s, but younger children and older adults also can develop agoraphobia.  Agoraphobia is generally treated with a combination of psychotherapy and medication. Symptoms of Agoraphobia and social phobia
